Morning sounds

Depths of slumber barely stirring,
Veils of sleep steadily hurrying,
Sounds growing louder in my mind,
Time to start the daily grind?

The Water tap runs a bit reluctantly,
Pressure cooker whistles most insistently,
Then milkman's call ever so kind,
Time to leave the night behind?

All India Radio tuned right in,
Neighbour's chanting adding to the din!
A moment of quiet - hard to find,
Morning and sounds, all entwined.

Gone, those days of youth and yore,
Though now the ear does yearn for more -
Familiar noises that memories bind,
Of mornings that I cannot find

Now I wake in a silent land,
The alarm that rings is a foreign brand,
No escape still from the daily grind,
Just no sounds ear yearns to find...
