Confidence

Perky, suave and dapper so,
I scurry around my room,
Very big day at work, u see,
It's a raise or it is doom!

Slides in order, papers placed,
And the numbers learnt by heart,
Creases have been smoothened out,
Before the meeting is to start.

I grit my teeth,I curl my fist,
My face is set in strength,
I brace myself for the day ahead,
With breaths of measured length!

Head held high, I straighten up,
And march on to the place,
My heart is fluttering in the ribs,
But a smile adorns my face.

There they sit, in suits of gray,
Their gloomy faces grim,
Prepared to tear my words apart,
Their faith in me looks slim

I bow to them and turn around,
My slides are set to start,
But the helper slips a note to me,
And a bolt goes through my heart!

I stare at them so stupidly,
The words hurriedly scrawled -
"Your skirt is unzipped in the back",
And my confidence is mauled!!
